During GUUG’s 2026 spring meeting the idea came up to organize a conference about the future of Unix, codename unix.next. Unfortunately, this domain name is not really available – so we are searching for another name.
All people involved agreed that organizing a real conference in 2026 would be too hard to manage but concluded that it would be nice to have a workshop for preparation of such an event.
Thus, the workshop unix.next will take place from October 7 noon to October 8 noon 2026 at the University of Bamberg. Talks and discussion should primarily help to gain an overview of possible topics but also on organizational aspects like conference format, location and sponsoring. It is organized by the department Practical Computer Science, esp. Systems Programming at University of Bamberg in cooperation with the German Unix User Group.
Participation will be free of charge, but registration is required. Details will follow.
